Why you should recommend cabin air filter replacement to customers this spring

MANN-FILTER cabin air filters offer protection against particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and allergens

Changing the cabin air filter in good time is particularly important in spring, when the peak pollen count season starts, global filtration specialist MANN+HUMMEL has said.

Global filtration specialist MANN+HUMMEL, based in Ludwigsburg Germany, provides effective protection against allergens, harmful gases and particulate matter with its MANN-FILTER FreciousPlus cabin air filters.

A MANN+HUMMEL spokesperson said: “A vehicle ventilation system draws in huge volumes of air from outside the vehicle into the passenger compartment.

“Each hour, several hundred thousand litres of this polluted outside air pass through the vehicle’s ventilation system into the interior, bringing with them not only allergens but also particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and other harmful gases that pose a threat to the health of the vehicle occupants.

Health threat

“This means that the air in the interior of the vehicle is often much more polluted than the ambient air.

“Thorough purification of the outside air by means of a cabin air filter is therefore essential, especially for frequent drivers, allergy sufferers, and children.”

MANN+HUMMEL say its MANN-FILTER cabin air filters in original equipment quality frees the air from outside the vehicle of nearly 100 per cent of particles and harmful gases.

The MANN-FILTER FreciousPlus filters out particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 micrometres (PM 2.5), almost completely.

For comparison: These particles are up to 30–40 times smaller than the thickness of a human hair.

Its sources include the abrasion of tyres and brake disks.

Odours and poisonous gases

In addition, the FreciousPlus cabin air filter adsorbs unpleasant odours and poisonous gases such as nitrogen oxides and ozone.

This reduces the nitrogen oxide concentration in the vehicle interior.

The biofunctional and antimicrobial coating on the FreciousPlus also traps the allergens which can be released from pollen as well as blocking the growth of bacteria and mould fungi.

With over 100 different types of FreciousPlus cabin air filters in original equipment quality, MANN-FILTER covers nearly 70 per cent of the European passenger car and transporter fleet.

“Leading-edge product innovation” supported by OSRAM takeover of Ring

The takeover has been welcomed by Ring as “very positive news” for customers

OSRAM has completed a takeover Ring, the aftermarket manufacturer of automotive lighting, electronics and accessories, as the company expands its product range in the automotive sector.

Autotech Recruit spearheads innovative permanent recruitment drive

Initiative to offer bespoke projects for individual businesses for large scale or multi-site permanent recruitment

Autotech Recruit has launched a pioneering, large-scale permanent recruitment drive, which is set to deliver multiple technicians across multiple sites, revolutionising the way in which national automotive companies recruit permanent vehicle technicians.

Due to the mass delivery of vehicle technicians, each unique permanent recruitment project is set to be extremely cost effective, with a saving of up to 60 per cent per candidate compared to traditional recruitment methods.

Each project will be based on a dedicated SLA agreement, set out by Autotech Recruit, to deliver a specified amount of vehicle technicians over a set period of time – if they do not deliver the full quota, they will refund a percentage of their fee.

“Cost-effective solution”

Gavin White, managing director at Autotech Recruit said: “This is a major shift in the process of permanent recruitment.

“It is a very cost-effective solution as we are not only putting our reputation on the line, however both parties have a deadline to deliver.”

This innovative approach to large-scale permanent recruitment, which will be an extension of Autotech Recruit’s rapidly growing employment solutions offering, will be managed by a dedicated team of permanent recruitment consultants.

The new service will be headed up by Sue Dixon, who spent almost 20 years within the recruitment division of Mercedes-Benz UK.

Online portal

A bespoke, online portal will underpin each permanent recruitment project and be accessible to all members of the client team during the project lifetime.

The permanent team manage every aspect of the recruitment campaign and, after thoroughly vetting each of the candidates, Autotech Recruit will load CVs onto the portal, with an alert sent to the client.

Gavin added: “Through the portal the employer can immediately access information on a highly suitable candidate, who meets their exact needs based on experience, skill set, location, and job flexibility such as part-time.

This is set to significantly reduce the overall recruitment time.

“Garages and dealerships are suffering from a wide-spread shortage of skilled technicians.

“However, they do not have the time to process CVs and find suitable candidates, while head office HR departments do not have the capacity to recruit for individual employers.”

“Our solution to large scale permanent recruitment is an innovative, semi-automated solution which will provide a consistent recruitment approach.”

DVSA confirms that ADAS remains out of the scope of MOT

Responsibility of all systems not covered by MOT lies with drivers

The DVSA has confirmed to AutoTorque that ADAS remains out of the remit of the MOT, with all vehicle systems that don’t fall under the MOT being the responsibility of drivers to maintain.

In a statement, Neil Barlow, DVSA’s head of vehicle engineering, said: “Drivers should ensure all vehicle systems, regardless of whether they are covered by MOT, work correctly and should get any problems seen to as soon as possible.

“DVSA’s priority is to help everyone keep their vehicle safe to drive.

“Britain’s roads are amongst the safest in the world and the MOT is key to helping them stay that way.

“ADAS does not yet fall within the scope of MOT.

“We’re constantly reviewing the test to ensure it keeps up with changes in vehicle technology.”

Ahead of fresh legislation on both ADAS and dealing with MOT fraud, Barlow explained how action is currently taken against fraudulent MOT testers. He said: “MOT fraud compromises vehicle safety and will not be tolerated.

Banning fraudulent testers

“There are a range of sanctions that can be carried out against fraudulent MOT testers.

“As well as any legal penalties, DVSA can, and does, ban people guilty for MOT fraud from testing.”

Servicesure appoints Bollington as new insurance provider

Servicesure has appointed Bollington as its insurance provider, supplying an exclusive comprehensive cover package for the national garage network.

The partnership commences on Monday 1st April, with Bollington’s team of local account managers providing a carefully-tailored, personal service which establishes each business’ individual insurance requirements.

An initial site visit will be arranged to run through each garage’s needs, with Bollington able to assist in areas such as road risks cover, premises cover, employers’ liability up to £10M, public ad products liability up to £5M, tools cover, engineering inspections, directors’ and officers’ insurance and business interruption cover, in addition to anything else the garage might need to be covered for.

With access to a range of insurers, Bollington offers insurance schemes that aren’t available elsewhere. This includes plans which offer savings of up to 10% on the garage’s existing renewal with their current insurer, insurance premium rebates of up to 10% to reward good claims experience, cover for up to £2,500 of contents in customer vehicles (subject to insurer and terms).

Pauline Brookes, Bollington’s UK Motor Trade Manager, explained: “Bollington has worked within the motor trade since it was founded over 45 years ago, starting off insuring local traders and garages as a general insurance broker before gradually building to now become one of the largest independent insurance brokers in the UK.

“We have a nationwide network of motor trade account managers, and because of our size and reputation we are able to negotiate great deals with insurers, while still retaining a friendly, personal service with named people managing and looking after the running of client accounts.”

Additionally, Bollington can also provide specialist risk management to help garages look after their health and safety arrangements, and its claims hotline is available 24-hours a day, every day of the year.

“Bollington’s industry credentials, along with its flexibility to tailor its service to create a bespoke package for each business in our network makes them the perfect business partner for Servicesure,” said Paul Dineen, Head of Garage Programmes at The Parts Alliance.

The Parts Alliance hosts first-ever National Conference

Around 300 managers from across The Parts Alliance converged in Manchester last week for the trading group’s first national conference.

The event was held in the Concorde Conference Centre underneath the iconic supersonic plane on Friday 22nd March. The day was packed with engaging and interactive content, all designed to build a sense of community among the sprawling nationwide network and communicate a future strategy with staff at its heart.

Senior management speeches opened proceedings in the morning, tracing the rapid evolution of The Parts Alliance. Outgoing CEO Peter Sephton, who announced his retirement on Wednesday 20th March following six years with The Parts Alliance, opened the event before handing over to new President and COO Neil Croxson.

Neil emphasised the importance of continuity in the care and quality of service The Parts Alliance network offers customers, citing the family origins of the group and reiterating a commitment to put the people of The Parts Alliance at the heart of that journey.

He said: “The National Conference was a fantastic opportunity to have all of our managers together for the first time and it’s an important milestone for us. We have a strong, diverse and passionate network of teams across the UK who work incredibly hard to deliver the best possible service to our customers.

“Our business is on an exciting journey of growth and we’re in a unique position where we’re able to offer our customers the strength of a national brand alongside the fantastic local service and support they’ve come to expect from our branches.

“From a leadership perspective, it was hugely gratifying to see so many of my colleagues meeting for the first time at the national conference, building new bridges and sharing best practice.”

Managing Director Jonny West and Divisional Directors Steve Gray and Emma Tiernan also provided updates on key projects and business targets, outlining plans for network optimisation, distribution investment, operational improvements and commercial strategy developments.

Managers broke into teams for a series of break-out sessions in the afternoon, featuring sessions from suppliers Brembo, Comma and Schaeffler. They also had the chance meet colleagues from the business’ functional support teams in an exhibition area where each team manned a stand.

Neil added: “We knew the exhibition area would be a valuable addition to the conference, but the fantastic feedback we’ve had from both those who visited the stands and those who manned them has surpassed our expectations.”

The event concluded with an evening meal where guests were treated to a surprise awards ceremony celebrating the success of the branch network from the past year.

GSF Banbury was crowned ‘Branch of the Year’, while SCMF Croydon was awarded ‘New Branch of the Year’. Both branches had performed excellently against an extensive set of KPIs judged by a panel of senior leaders.
