DVSA issues “free toolkit” for test stations to help manage MOT demand following end of six-month exemption
The DVSA is calling on garages to help encourage customers to bring their MOT test forward ahead of an “MOT rush” this autumn.
The DVSA’s ‘Beat the Rush‘ campaign coincides with the return to mandatory testing on 1 August.
On its Matters of Testing blog, the DVSA said: “We know that 52 per cent of MOT customers will come to you, at your garage, if they have questions about their MOT.
“So, we’ve created some materials for you to use to encourage your customers to think about booking their MOT early.
“By working together, we can manage the unprecedented demand for MOTs which will start to peak as more and more customers try to get their vehicles tested from September onwards.”
The materials include draft messages for social media, email and text communications and graphics for use on garage websites and social posts.
The agency will also be encouraging vehicle owners whose MOT is due in autumn to get their test done early through social media, press its MOT reminder service.
The DVSA is expecting an “extremely busy” autumn as motorists granted an MOT exemption will be required to an MOT test before the expiry of their already granted extension.
It comes at the busiest time of year for testing and demand is expected to double in September, October and November.
Garage Wire understands that extended MOT expiry dates will continue to be honoured for vehicles which have already been granted a six-month extension.
